What I Saw at the Sonos Amp Multi Launch

Today, I attended a Sonos product launch in San Jose, CA for the new Amp Multi, and it was one of the more interesting CI-focused products I’ve seen in a while. I don't want to bury the lead - Amp Multi is the first product launched under new leadership and in my opinion, they nailed it. Amp Multi gives professionals a better way to deliver high-quality multi-zone audio without giving up the experience Sonos users already know and love. It streamlines installation, saves space, and it's extremely flexible. On top of that, it comes with a 3-year warranty!

This is not just a minor refresh. Sonos launched Amp Multi on January 27, 2026 as a professional-grade multichannel streaming amplifier built for custom installation, with 8 amplified outputs at 125 watts each, support for up to four configurable zones, GaN and PFFB amplifier technology, fanless cooling, and Wi-Fi 6 or Ethernet connectivity.

What stood out to me is that this feels like Sonos taking the integration channel very seriously.

Sonos has always been something I recommend when a client wants a familiar app experience and strong streaming support. Where things vary a little more is when a project grows larger. That is where Amp Multi is so compelling. Instead of stacking multiple two-channel Sonos Amps in a rack or adding multiple Sonos Ports and a 3rd party amplifier, Sonos is offering a clean, scalable platform. Sonos describes it as purpose-built for pros.

Another big point is tuning. ProTune advances sound optimization, including a 10-band parametric EQ plus gain and delay adjustments. This is huge in real homes, where speaker layouts, an environment's acoustics, and retrofit limitations rarely align perfectly for sound quality.

I also like the product positioning. Amp Multi is focused on distributed audio, not trying to be everything at once. It doesn't replace Sonos Amp and each will have its place. That is a good thing. A purpose-built multizone amplifier is a cleaner answer for music-only areas.

My early takeaway is Amp Multi looks like a smart product where Sonos truly listened to the professional installation community. Based on what Sonos announced and what I saw today, this will be a meaningful addition to the lineup. It will simplify rack design, reduce hardware clutter, and give users the Sonos experience they already know, but with another significant layer of innovation, capability, and performance.

For homeowners, the benefit is a clear path to high-quality whole-home audio. For integrators, the bigger story is that Sonos appears to be filling a real gap with a product designed for how projects are actually built.
