Why I’m Seeing Growing Demand for Automated Shades in Truckee-Tahoe

As I’ve started working on more projects in Truckee and the North Tahoe area, one category keeps standing out: automated shades.

It makes sense. Mountain homes have particular demands. Many have large, floor-to-ceiling, odd-shaped, or hard-to-reach windows. Strong, sustained sun exposure, glare, privacy needs, and changing conditions throughout the year all make shading especially important.

Automated shades help solve several problems at once. They can reduce glare, improve privacy, help manage temperature, and make large glass areas more comfortable to live with. They also make daily use much easier. Automating based on calendar events can dramatically enhance the comfort of a home. With the right solutions, certain shades can open and close automatically based on the time of day and season. A shade you want open for light during the winter may be the same shade you want to close automatically in the heat of summer to help reduce glare and heat gain. In a mountain home, automation can do more than save a few button presses. It can help the house respond more intelligently to the environment and support a simpler, more polished living experience.

Design matters too. With the right product and application, shades can support the architecture and interior design rather than compete with it. That is especially important in mountain homes, where views, natural light, and materials are such a big part of the experience.

We’ve partnered with leading shading manufacturers including Lutron, Screen Innovations, and Specialty Shading Systems. We offer scalable solutions at multiple price points, including battery-powered and wirelessly controlled options that make retrofit possible in virtually any home.

For Tahoe and Truckee homes, automated shades are not just a luxury add-on. In many cases, they are one of the smartest upgrades any homeowner can make.
